What to buy here

What to look for here

WinCo Foods is a large chain of cheap grocery stores from Boise, Idaho, and most of the company is employee-owned. It has about 145 stores in 10 states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Montana and Oklahoma, and since 2025 the chain has been moving into Colorado. It is a warehouse format: you bag your own groceries, prices are low, and there is a huge bulk section (nuts, dried fruit, spices, grains, sweets).

For me it is a neighborhood store: you go for groceries, and it has vitamins and supplements, hygiene products, household cleaners, and items for the home and pets. The quality is nothing special: mostly mass-market brands and the store brand, and the home goods are of average quality. People do not come here for rare brands.

Many stores are open 24 hours, but not all: for example, in Bellingham (Washington) they close from 1 to 5 at night. Check the hours of a specific store in the locator at wincofoods.com.

From our shopping trips

WinCo had 2 of our shopping trips. Almost everything cost $1-5, and only a handful of items were over $15. The biggest was the seasonal sweets shopping trip, with 142 items.
