The chain is carrying out its plan to close about 1,200 pharmacies over three years (through 2027), about 500 of them in fiscal 2025. In 2026 it is closing fewer than 100 pharmacies, and about 8,000 remain.
Watch for closing sales: before closing, a store sells off its remaining stock, and discounts grow every week. Before you go, check whether the store in your city is still open - on the chain's website or in Google Maps.

What to look for here
Walgreens has a range similar to CVS and, like CVS, has become more of a neighborhood store than a standalone pharmacy: prescription pharmacy, vitamins and supplements (Nature Made, Nature's Bounty and the Walgreens store brand), drugstore beauty (CeraVe, La Roche-Posay), personal care, makeup, hygiene. Before the holidays, perfume gift sets appear, for example Calvin Klein and Juicy Couture. The Ordinary and Olaplex are not sold here - instead of The Ordinary serums, Walgreens has its own inexpensive alternatives. Prices and deals differ between the two chains: if both are nearby, compare the weekly flyers before a big vitamin purchase.

How to read the price and where it's lowest
On vitamins and health products from the Walgreens store brand there is often "Buy 1, Get 1 50% off" (the second item is the same or cheaper), and on other brands "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" comes up regularly. Deals change every week; you can see them in the app and on the price tags by the shelves.
