What to look for here
Uniqlo is a Japanese casual clothing brand with very good quality at mid-range prices. The pieces are simple and easy to mix and match, which makes it convenient to put outfits together. The brand is gaining popularity in the US: about 80 stores, with new ones opening every year. Stores are mostly in malls and on the main shopping streets of big cities. Worth buying: lightweight Ultra Light Down puffer jackets, HEATTECH thermal underwear, AIRism pieces, cashmere sweaters and bags.
What I pick
Personally, I single out the sports leggings. For example, Ultra Stretch AIRism: almost a quarter of the fabric is spandex, so they stretch a lot and fit close to the body; the fabric is matte and not see-through, with UPF50+ sun protection. In the newer models the fabric is DRY-EX - cool to the touch and with odor protection.
Men's AIRism boxer briefs (about $15) are made of a smooth fabric that dries faster than cotton and cools the skin, so they're comfortable in the heat. There's a seamless model, Ultra Seamless.
Ultra Light Down puffer jackets are very light and warm: the jacket packs into a small pouch, so you can carry it with you and pull it out when it gets cold. The water-repellent finish wears off over time. HEATTECH is thermal underwear that, according to the brand, turns moisture from the body into heat.
