What to look for here
Tokyo Beauty is a small California chain of Japanese cosmetics, skin care and home goods. As a rule, the stores are in premium outlets. There are four right now: Great Mall (Milpitas), San Francisco Premium Outlets (Livermore), Stoneridge Shopping Center (Pleasanton) and The Outlets at Orange (Orange). The stores vary in size - from large to very small.
The chain has no working website of its own; news and addresses are on Instagram @tokyobeautystore. Don't confuse it with Tokyo Japanese Lifestyle: that's a different chain of Japanese gifts and toys.
- Hair and skin care: Fino masks and shampoos, Biore cleansing foams, horse oil creams, Shiseido lip balms and hand creams, sheet masks.
- MegRhythm (Kao) steam eye masks, bath salts and bath tablets.
- DHC vitamins, Japanese oral care products (Sunstar, Ora2).
- Japanese household and cleaning products: Kao, Attack, Nanox, products for the kitchen, bathroom and washing machine.
- Sweets: Meiji Meltykiss chocolate.
In my experience, this is a store for people who love everything Japanese: it has lots of unusual and fun little things you can't find in American drugstores.
From our shopping trips
We did five shopping trips at Tokyo Beauty: in Gilroy, at San Francisco Premium Outlets and near Los Angeles, and showed almost 450 items in them. Prices range from $1.60 to $70, most of them $4-13. Stores in small chains sometimes close - before you go, check the address on the chain's Instagram.
The most frequent picks were Meiji Meltykiss chocolate for $4.40, Fino hair mask for $9, Biore foam for $4, Ora2 mouth spray and Japanese Sunstar toothpaste, and from household products - Kao kitchen foam.
