What to buy here

What to look for here

Target is the second-largest chain after Walmart where you can buy absolutely everything, and its direct competitor: about 2,000 stores across the country. Clothing and kids' items (own brands Cat & Jack, Universal Thread, Goodfellow), mass-market cosmetics and skincare, vitamins, toys, stationery and craft supplies, electronics, home and kitchen goods, seasonal decor. People most often buy kids' clothing, cosmetics and skincare, home goods and holiday collections here.

Target's slogan is "Expect More. Pay Less." - it's Walmart a level up, with a focus on design and own brands. The home and kitchen goods here are very pretty and varied, and there's electronics - you can come and furnish a whole house in one go. But it will most likely cost more than at Walmart. Around Christmas there are Starbucks gift sets here. The Ulta Beauty departments inside Target closed in August 2026, when the contract ended.

My experience

What I've noticed over the years of shopping here

I like Target much more than Walmart - everything about it is wonderful, a really good store. It's especially good to come here after Christmas: there's a big sale on toys and holiday items, and at different Targets you can buy toys for literally pennies - they get marked down very heavily.

If you live in America, the best way to save on toys is to buy them after Christmas and tell the kids that here it's not Santa who comes, but Ded Moroz on January 1. That's how I got by in my first years in America, when we were just getting on our feet but the kids still wanted gifts.

From our shopping trips

We had 9 shopping trips at Target. Almost everything cost $1-15, and only a few items were over $50. Clearance discounts reached 70-73%. We bought the most after holidays, in late December and January: toys, skincare and cosmetics, sweets.
