When it started, who owns it and how many stores
The largest chain of outlet centers in the US: open-air, with stores like Coach, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors and dozens of other brands. The chain grew out of Chelsea, which opened the first outlet center in New Jersey in 1981; Simon bought it in 2004 for $3.5 billion. There are centers in Japan, Korea, Mexico, Canada and Southeast Asia.

When the sales are
The chain's main event is National Outlet Shopping Day in mid-June: usually four days at all Premium Outlets and The Mills. Hundreds of brands offer extra discounts of up to 40%, "20% off $100", BOGO and gifts with purchase.
There are also sales on holiday weekends: Memorial Day, Labor Day (often with a sidewalk sale and clearance) and Black Friday. Many centers are closed on Thanksgiving and open at 6 a.m. on Friday. Each center runs its own deals, so check the center's page on premiumoutlets.com, in the Deals section.
