Macy'sDiscounts, sales and what to buy
The chain is shrinking under the Bold New Chapter plan - about 150 stores in total, spread out through 2028. 66 stores closed in 2025 and 14 more in early 2026.
Watch for closing sales: before closing, a store sells off its remaining stock, and discounts grow every week. Before you go, check whether the store in your city is still open - on the chain's website or in Google Maps.

What to buy here
What to look for here
Macy's is probably America's most famous department store. In one place: clothing and shoes from mid-range and premium American brands (Levi's, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren), bags, lingerie, home textiles, and on the ground floor - cosmetics and perfume. People rarely pay full price here: almost always something is on sale.
Cosmetics and perfume deserve a separate mention: the selection is huge, with counters for almost all the big brands - Lancôme, Estée Lauder, Clinique, MAC, Dior, Shiseido, Kiehl's, Charlotte Tilbury. At the MAC counter you can book a makeup appointment. I strongly recommend keeping an eye on Lancôme and Estée Lauder promotions - there is a separate section about them below.
From our shopping trips
At Macy's we did 14 shopping trips. Most often we filmed cosmetics sets (Lancôme, MAC, Estée Lauder), shoes and costume jewelry. Most items cost $6-50, the most expensive sets - several hundred dollars. Discounts of up to 80-90% showed up on the Macy's Backstage racks (an off-price section inside some stores) and at store-closing sales.
