What to buy here

What to look for here

CVS is the largest drugstore chain in the US, with more than 7000 stores. Like Walgreens, it is now more of a convenience store than a standalone pharmacy. Besides the prescription pharmacy, there is a large vitamin and supplement section - mostly the CVS Health house brand, plus Nature Made, Nature's Bounty, Vitafusion, Olly. There are lots of cosmetics: drugstore skincare (CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, Neutrogena, Olay), mass-market makeup, fragrance, hair products, hygiene. Most people pick up vitamins and skincare.

How discounts work

How to read the price and where it's lowest

  • Vitamins regularly go on "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" or "Buy 1, Get 1 50% off" deals for select brands, and the weekly circular usually lists several of them.
  • A new circular comes out on Sundays, so it's better to go for vitamins during a specific week.
  • Many deals give you ExtraBucks for buying specific items - a coupon for a set amount that you can spend on your next purchase.
  • Cosmetics constantly get "second one free" (BOGO) and "second one half off" (BOGO 50%) deals, as well as "spend $X - get ExtraBucks." For example, in late October 2025 there was BOGO 50% on all Milani and $6 ExtraBucks for 2 Maybelline items.
  • Fragrance sales with discounts of up to 50-75% come around from time to time: in September 2026 mass-market fragrances were marked down 50% (prices from $3.74), and in March 2024 gift sets were 75% off. Markdowns vary by store and apply in-store only.
Receipt coupons are a CVS specialty. At the bottom of almost every receipt they print personal coupons and ExtraBucks for your next purchase, which is why receipts can get very long - don't throw them away right away. Some stores also have a Coupon Center kiosk: you scan your ExtraCare card and get coupons right for that trip.
